Devastating Update on UPS Incident: Fatalities Rises to 13

The number of lives lost from the freight aircraft which caught fire and plummeted has reached 13, as confirmed by latest announcements.

Official's Remarks

“On my way to the Union’s memorial service, I was informed of a thirteenth victim that passed away as a result of the UPS flight 2976 incident,” wrote the city mayor in a public communication. “My prayers is with the loved ones, associates and co-workers of all who were killed in this week’s calamity. We will overcome this collectively.”

Casualties Identified

A statement from the carrier identified the flight crew operating the jet as Pilot Richard Wartenberg, First Officer Lee Truitt, and International Relief Officer Dana Diamond.

“Our hearts reach out to each UPSer who has been affected and everyone in our Louisville area – helping you and making sure you get the care and aid you need is our priority,” the organization’s communication expressed.

Investigation Updates

Federal officials revealed that the freight aircraft’s wing caught fire and an engine separated just after takeoff from the airfield, leading to the plane to plummet and burst into a blaze.

The NTSB stated it is examining the aircraft’s maintenance history, that was in the state for fixes weeks before the incident.

Aviation information showed the aircraft was on the ground in that location from 3 September to 18 October.

“We are knowledgeable that this plane was present in that city,” stated an NTSB member on the following day, without providing a precise date range. “We will review every piece of repairs that was performed, including the San Antonio time, right up to the time of the flight.”

Findings of Key Items

The cockpit voice recorder and data recorder were retrieved, and the motor was found on the runway.

The recorders – called black boxes – were constructed to survive crash impacts and severe heat from blazes, and they appeared to be in one piece when located among the wreckage. Officials intend to reviewing recordings from the recorders.

Aircraft’s last recorded information displayed an altitude of 475 ft and a rate of 210 miles per hour prior to the crash.

Service Record

Per Federal Aviation Administration files from last month, a crack on a component within the fuel container required repairs.

The company ST Engineering, which stated it supplies airframe maintenance for the company’s jet and operates a maintenance center in San Antonio, chose not to speak, but stated it would cooperate fully when investigators reached out it.

Operations Restart

At the same time, the hub services continued Wednesday night with its overnight or nighttime process, spokesperson a representative stated. The three tarmacs at Louisville Muhammad Ali international airport were also back in operation.

The sorting center in the city is the firm’s biggest. The hub hires more than twenty thousand individuals in the locality, manages numerous aircraft daily and processes in excess of four hundred thousand parcels an hour.

Local Response

A memorial was conducted on the late afternoon of 6 November by the regional Teamsters Union, which acts for employees at the Louisville airport, the organization’s biggest freight center.

Worker representatives, which stands for UPS workers, commenced the memorial with a quiet tribute at that time, the estimated moment of the incident before.

“This event was so sudden, so surprising,” the official told the group of attendees. “No one had a chance to bid farewell to any of those who we have mourned.”
