Ten convicted of digital abuse directed at Brigitte Macron

A French judicial body has convicted ten people for engaging in the online harassment of Brigitte Macron, the partner of French President, Emmanuel Macron.
The those on trial faced allegations of disseminating false claims regarding her sex and sexuality, in addition to publishing malicious remarks about the couple's significant age difference.
The court delivered conditional custodial sentences of a maximum of eight months to the convicted individuals. The complete verdict has still to be made public.
A circulating unfounded claim claiming that Brigitte Macron is a transgender woman has been in circulation since her husband's initial election in 2017.
This recent ruling in France comes as the Macrons pursuing a libel case in the US against right-wing influencer Candace Owens, who has also voiced analogous false narratives about the Brigitte Macron's identity.
Their complaint states that Owens disregarded substantial counter-evidence disproving her claim choosing instead to platforming known conspiracy theorists.
Owens has regularly repeated these allegations on her show and social media channels, and in March 2024 proclaimed that she would bet her whole career on her conviction that Mrs. Macron was born a man.
Brigitte Macron initially encountered her current spouse when she was a teacher at his lycée.
The couple married in 2007, when the man who would become president was 29 and she was in her mid-50s.
